Pieter Bast, Drums


Pieter Bast was born on April 27 , 1964 in Conflans St. Honorine, France. At the age of 13 he started to play drums. In 1988 he completed his study at the Sweelinck Conservatory of Amsterdam with top marks and got his degree as teacher and performing musician.

In the period 1985 -1988 he was the leader of a succesfull Quintet "PB-5 " , which won in 1986 the first price at the NOS - Meervaart Jazz Contest, Amsterdam, and was also awarded as beļng best soloļst of this contest.

From 1988 up untill now Pieter bast has been performing as a sideman with several highly respected musicians [ f.e. Kenny Wheeler, Eddie Bert, Urbie Green, Charlie Mariano, Eric Vloeimans, Hans Dulfer, Michiel Borstlap, Dick de Graaf, The Europian Concert Orchestra, Hugh Hopper ] and have been touring with them throughout Europe, Canada, Indonisļa, Africa and the Midle- East.
These past projects are to be heard on more than 40 CD's which are worldwide distributed.

At this moment he is on tour with the following groups: Paul van Kemenade Quintet, Low Motion Trio, Marnix Busstra Quartet, Martin Fondse Octemble, Fay Victor Band, First Move Crossover Project, Jeroen Pek Band and the Amina Figarova Septet.

In addition, Pieter Bast is also teaching drums at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Belgļum, and is freqeuntly asked as a guest-teacher at the Conservatory of Tilburg, Holland.
